For many women, achieving the perfect brow shape can often be a difficult task that is at the discretion of your beauty expert. Cosmetics company Benefit has stepped in to the take uncertainty out of the procedure by teaming up with ModiFace to create its own Brow Try-On app. The app allows users to try on a variety of different eyebrow looks through augmented reality. The user’s face is scanned by the app through the smartphone’s camera. From there, an array of eyebrow options are generated for the user to browse and try on their face. The app is available for free on the Benefit website.

The Tinder for renting

Who would have thought dating and renting a house could be two things one did interchangeably whilst playing around on their mobile phone? In an endeavor to assist young people entering the Netherland’s rental market, HuisjeHuisje is an app that enables renters who are interested in relocating to sample different homes. The platform functions similarly to a dating app (literally referred to as “tinder for renting”), in that potential home swappers must mutually ‘like’ each other to match. Instead of a person, a user’s profile shows their home and lists facts about it such as the price to rent, size and number of bedrooms and bathrooms.

What better way to inspire people to exercise than by enabling them to earn cryptocurrency by walking!? Sweatcoin counts the number of steps a user takes and turns these steps in cryptocurrency which can be used to purchase products on the fitness platform.  Anyone with a smartphone can use Sweatcoin, a free app that works by connecting to the phone’s built-in fitness data and GPS locator. For every 1,000 steps a person takes they earn 0.95 Sweatcoins. Based on the user’s activity levels, the currency can stack up quickly. Those who save enough have the opportunity to purchase products ranging from an iPhone X to protein supplements.

Kentucky Fried Drone – KFC’s Flyest Meal Ever

KFC have done some pretty bizarre advertising stunts in the past from chicken-flavoured nail polish to VR training experiences. They appear to have outdone themselves more recently, selling chicken wing boxes that double as drones, offered at selected store locations in India. Customers who ordered Smoky Grilled Wings (a menu item exclusive to the region) on January 25 and 26 received their wings in a takeout box that can be taken apart and reassembled to make a bluetooth connected drone. Never lose your slippers again thanks to self-parking technology

Have you ever slid out of your slippers and later wondered where on earth in the house you left them? Nisson Motor Co has developed a system for slippers to “park” themselves at the entrance of an upmarket Japanese hotel at the push of a button for guests to use upon arrival. Each slipper is equipped with two tiny wheels, a motor and sensors to ‘drive’ across the wooden lobby floor using Nissan’s ProPilot Park technology. The self-parking slippers have been developed to raise awareness for automated driving technologies as well as the potential non-driving applications that the technology is capable of.

Robots listen to 911 calls to detect cardiac arrest

A trained human may soon be accompanied by a robot in the 911 emergency call room. Corti is a robot that was developed by a Danish startup by the same name. The emergency call-listening artificial intelligence is designed to listen to the caller for signs that they may be going into cardiac arrest. Like a human doctor, Corti analyzes everything a patient says and shares in real. Corti then outputs diagnostic advice to the medical personnel, to help them diagnose patients faster. This can be especially powerful in an emergency use case where mistakes can be fatal.
