A bus timetable that won’t let you down

Is there anything that crowd-sourcing can’t achieve?!  We’ve seen scientific advances funded, worldwide social issues tackled, but now, the most unbelievable achievement yet… a bus timetable that is actually accurate??? Say whaaaaat?

A new app out of Israel, named Ototo, relies on a community of ‘Riders’, who allow anonymous location data to be sent from their smartphones whenever they’re travelling via public transport.  This data is then collated together and shared with app users to provide a more realistic time frame for their travel. For example, your bus timetable shows that the bus is due in 5 minutes, BUT, another rider on that bus route is showing they are actually more than 5 minutes away – meaning this bus is running late.  Once this information is received, Ototo can then suggest a quicker alternative route.

The service currently has 12,000 global ‘riders’ connected to the community, all providing real-time travel data.

Delta airlines have both positioned themselves as a leading aviation thinktank and completely revolutionized their content marketing, thanks to a very clever new campaign – Delta Innovation Class.

Each day Delta helps transport, in their own words; “some of the smartest people in the world, to where they need to be”.  This idea has led them to the brilliant notion of creating a program that allows you to apply (via Linkedin) to share the flight with the mentor of your choice – allowing for hours of conversation that could potentially change your life. The program is a genius idea, that not only incorporates one of the most under-utilized Social Media giants – Linkedin, but also manages to involve TED – the world leader in thought provoking conferences and public speaking events.

Beautiful Death – Game of Thrones

HBO have added to their already long list of creative strategies in the lead up to the launch of the 4th Season of Game of Thrones, with a series of illustrations created by artist Robert M. Ball. Each illustration is based on the most poignant death of that episode and is showcased on the microsite beautifuldeath.com. One illustration will be released every day in the lead up to the April 6 premiere. Hidden throughout each image are Easter eggs and surprises for fans of the show. Further to this, fans are invited to submit their own artistic interpretations to be showcased through social channels using the hashtag #beautifuldeath.

Pepsi Max unleash Bengal tigers in London

Pepsi Max recently took over a London bus shelter, secretly installing some unbelievable interactive billboards with the sole purpose of giving commuters a bit of a shock.

What appears to be a glass shelter wall, is actually an Augmented Reality display panel that sneakily incorporates digital illusions into the real time street view. The digital technology then tricks unsuspecting passengers into thinking they are immersed in unbelievable and unexpected scenes.  The end result is pretty convincing and looks amazing. The illusions include alien abductions, stray Bengal tigers roaming the streets, meteorite explosions and giant rampaging robots. Rachel Holmes, senior marketing manager at PepsiCo UK says, “It truly lives up to Pepsi Max’s Unbelievable proposition from the innovative media planning through to the fantastic creative.”

Guilty Pledgers

Handing over money to charity is enough for some to feel good about themselves, but not-for-profits and social good organizations often find it difficult to prompt donations without offering something in return. A new app for streaming music service Spotify wants people to donate to charity in return for getting their favourite (or embarrasing) songs played during friends’ parties. The Guilty Pledgers app requires party hosts to sign in using Facebook, then open up a party playlist – charging partygoers for adding an embarrassing track to a Spotify playlist, and then sending the cash to a charity of their choice. “We think it’s a shame that guilt is often used cynically in charity marketing: make people feel bad, then ask them for money to feel okay again,” explains the Guilty Pledgers website. “We wanted to turn ‘offsetting guilt’ into something fun, where everyone gets to feel brilliant.”
