Someone really good at advertising once said, ‘There’s nothing more powerful than the truth.’
It was with this principle in mind that BCM had an idea in the lead up to Father’s Day 2014. An idea to create a tribute to the old school Dads of the 70’s and 80’s for our client’s ‘old school’ product, Bundaberg Ginger Beer.
After some crafty writing, a quick approval, and a fair share of logistical challenges, the retro-inspired shoot was scheduled for a beautiful, brisk August weekend. We had it all on set that day; short shorts, brown Valiants, dodgy moustaches, burnt sausages and way too much bum-crack. If it sounds like fun, that’s because it was. If it sounds familiar, that’s because it was all based on reality.
As part of the campaign, we also invited the public to participate by uploading a photo of their old school Dad to Facebook for the chance to win a prize. Given people already do this in social media around Father’s Day, we thought it was a great opportunity to get more people involved. [View the gallery on Facebook]
With over 900 nostalgic photos already uploaded by the public, and almost 60,000 views on YouTube, it’s good to see that there really is tremendous power in the truth.
