After a whirlwind few months since Paul and Kev announced that I’d be heading off to Austin, the day is finally here and I’m sitting in LAX Airport en route to South by Southwest! I’m just a mere four hours away from one of the world’s most influential tech and media conferences.
My SXSW journey began last year when all eligible staff were invited to submit an entry to be in with a chance to take part in BCM’s Career Acceleration Programme (CAP for short). We were asked to submit a piece of work based around the theme ‘Advertising in the Year 2020’. The successful entrants then went through an interview process and were narrowed down to five people, then two, and then one! Having won my place in CAP, I’ll be taking part in a mentoring programme within different departments in the agency, but firstly heading off on a once in a lifetime trip to SXSW! (with my CAP hat bonus prize in tow).
As part of a separate prize for winning oOh! Media’s ‘Million Dollar Pitch,’ Paul and Nick will be finishing their round of their world trip at SXSW so we’ll be dividing and conquering the Interactive Festival and squeezing as much as we can into each day. It’s so hard to choose, but the highlights, for me, from my schedule include:
Go Native or Go Home: Ads and Addictive Content
Marketing to Moments That Matter
Smart Ad Campaigns: It’s Not About the Product
Ed Saxon: The Power of Story in a Digital Age.
Of course, being in the same building as the POTUS himself will be pretty cool too as he’s the Keynote speaker on Friday! Being the inaugural winner of the CAP SXSW trip, I don’t know exactly what to expect, but I couldn’t be more excited to touch down in Austin and get in the midst of it all. I am gearing up for four days of thrilling, inspiring chaos from some of the world’s most influential people in the industry. And eating some Texas barbeque, I’m pretty excited about that too! We’ll be updating with blogs and photos of our trip throughout the week, so there’s more to come ya’ll!
