Shopping centres have been playing Christmas carols for what seems like an eternity and festive decorations have appeared just about everywhere. But it’s ages until Christmas, right?
Well I don’t mean to alarm you, but Christmas is in 22 days!
While we all look forward to the Christmas parties and consuming copious amounts of ham, buying gifts for your loved ones can be a difficult task.
Just in time for the holiday season, Google has announced new features to make Christmas shopping a little easier.
Designed for shoppers on mobile devices, searches will now return extra information at the top of Google’s interface. Expandable product cards will appear, showing more detailed information, like where products are available, user reviews and prices, allowing shoppers to make a well informed purchase decision. There is no need to use the ‘shopping’ tab, as the details will appear in a regular search. You’ll even be able to use a 3D, 360° rotation tool to view selected products.
It’s no secret we love our smart phones and tablets, as we have instant information at our fingertips regardless of where we are or what time it is. What may surprise you, is that according to Google, almost half of all 25-34 year olds use their phone to shop online while already in line at a store.
I think it’s a little ridiculous that people are shopping online while they are also in store, but I can see the advantages of shopping online at Christmas, like:
1. Quickly and easily searching for gift ideas for that aunt you only see for birthdays and Christmas,
2. Finding deals that may be exclusively online (often with cheap or free shipping), and
3. Avoiding children hyped up on sugar from all the candy canes they have eaten.
The features are being rolled out now, so there is no better time to start your Christmas shopping!
