Phil McDonald talks to Media Week
About BCM’s 40+ year history, growth in a post-pandemic era, and what’s on the cards for the next financial year.
Founded in 1978, BCM is one of the longest-running independent media agencies in Australia, with a reputation for success to boot.
Before joining the company in 2018, McDonald held the regional CEO position at Young and Rubicam group in ANZ, encompassing Y&R, digital agency VML and retail agency Ideaworks.
Despite the pandemic negatively impacting many businesses, McDonald says BCM were lucky to do well, especially as some of their travel clients were particularly badly hit. Working hard and smart kept them going throughout, he noted.
In terms of what’s to come for the company, McDonald is excited about business in Sydney picking up, with plans to expand the office there to service a growing client base. Alongside this, growing their earned media offering through in house PR offering IVY is another priority.
With McDonald joining the management board of the IMAA in early 2021, BCM is now the first Queensland based member of the group.
